"A huge success!" That is what Executive Director Peggy Kerwin and other SOLVE board members are calling their 38th Anniversary Gala and fund raising event. And, huge it was with some 465 attendees packed into Polo Grill's Fete Ballroom in Lakewood Ranch.
The evening included a film and remarks by director Peggy Kerwin tracing the organizations history and recent accomplishments. It was highlighted by keynote speaker, Darrell Green, known during his 20 year NFL career as the "NFL's fastest man." Mr. Green's faith based talk was right in line with SOLVE's ministry and program that provides not just housing but seeks to help young mothers develop all the skills necessary to parent their child.
Last year, SOLVE provided a home for 63 women. Forty eight babies were born, 7 women got their GED, 4 attended from high school and 2 graduated, 8 completed technical schools, 6 continued in college and 22 got jobs and/or additional work experience. Since its inception, more than 1,000 have been born to SOLVE mothers.
